Mind the Gaps Please' which was a featured 6'x4' painting featured on the cover of Sounding a Mosaic, their latest record. The work dealt with the cultural gaps felt living in Canada, and the disjunct between the ideal and reality. 'Mind the Gaps' referring back to the unseen hand of british colonial past, and a direct reference to the london underground.

I have not heard of this before, but I am interested in the colonial period for both Canada and the U.S. If you have more info, I wouldlike to hear about it. Good luck!

Here is the actual recording… How is my accent?

Author: admin  //  Category: sound recording london

Ok, so here it is. I recorded me speaking with my London accent, and lets just hope that the link worked this time!
I have been working on the accent for about 3 years. I want your honest opinions on how I can improve on it and make it sound more authentic. Please listen and tell me what you think. All I want is opinions on how to improve the accent. Do you think it is a decent attempt at a London accent, or is it absolutely beastly? Please give your honest opinion. I just need to know how to improve on the accent. Thank you for all your help! Cheers!

Ok, well IDK how I really learned. I watch Monty Python a lot, and I love Harry Potter and that sort of thing, but IDK. I have a few British relatives and friends, but it seems like the accent was just always there in the back of my head…. I wouldn't know how to teach it. Try talking with dark vowels. And try to concentrate the sound of your voice more toward the front of your mouth and lips, rather than how you speak "American" now with the sound in the middle of your mouth. Does that make any sence whatsoever?

well i'm not british, but many of my friends are. The accent I think doesn't sound like you lived there. But it doesn't sound like you are learning. It sounds like you have an accent and you are trying to hide it, but doing a pretty bad job, whinch is good, considering it is the opposite way around.
It's better than mine :P

BTW I love your vocabulary!!

On the London Underground, what does the announcement "Inspector Sams report to the control room" mean?

Author: admin  //  Category: sound recording london

sounds like a coded message, and is pre-recorded and repeated about six times in a row. Needs a reference..

Yeah it's inspector sands, and its code for a fire alarm going off somewhere that needs to be checked.

I was at St Pancras last year and they were playing it over and over to test the new station, and because of the Eurostar they'd recorded it in English and French which was kind of weird…

Ok, so I am from Arizona, and I have been working on a British accent for a few years now. I think that the accent I do would be from, well, I am not sure! I want you to please listen to this recording I made, and tell me how bad or good my accent is, where it sounds like it's from, and tips on how to improve on it. I really love Brits, as I have family members directly from the UK, and I have been working on an accent for a while. Now I need to know what you think of it………

Here is a recording, does this accent sound authentic…?

Author: admin  //  Category: sound recording london

I am from Arizona, U.S. I have been working on a London, England accent for a few years now. Yesterday I posted a recording of what my accent sounded like, and with your tips, I improved on it. Now here is the accent as I have improved it. If you have any tips on how to improve on it more, please tell me! Cheers!

Do you think any of you Londoners could post a recording of your voice for me to hear?

Sorry mate, but I don't think it's that good really. I've read a lot of comments from other people on the other questions you've posted and your main feedback is coming from other americans and they think it's good…so if you are trying to fool an american then yeah it's probably fine, but you don't sound english to me!!

For one thing, you sound too posh to be a Londoner, and the phrases you use just aren't fitting in with the dialect you are aiming for! You speak quickly but draw out the ends of the words slowly (a very american way of speaking) and your accent seeps through when you do this! Your a's just don't sound right…they sound odd, but I can't explain exactly why. I'm from the north, so obviously we have a very different accent to southerners anways, but I have spent a lot of time down south and my closest mates are at uni in london…

You say ah and umm between words, but English people are more likely to say erm or err…and your o's sound odd when you say a lot…it sounds more like 'a lawt' than a lot to me.

Also, at points you come across sounding Australian or South African, which is a little odd. And your accent, if anywhere, would be south western England as opposed to London persay.

Try picking up English terminology to improve the authenticity of what you say…if you use words that are typically English, people won't notice discrepancies in your accent so much.

Looking back on what I've said I feel like I'm being a little critical…so I'll add that your accent is a hell of a lot better than the majority of American's takes on English, but it's just not authentic sounding!

Why do you want to do this anyway? I mean, why not just be happy with who you are?? And why do you want a London accent as opposed to an accent from elsewhere in England?
